WOLFSBURG, Volkswagen embarked on more powerful Golf and took it to the shows. The concept Golf R400 was initially "introduced" in 2014 at the Beijin Motor Show, and went under production to be launched in 2016.

Dissecting the name: The R400 skeletal is obviously based on the company's champion Golf R Line, with the '400' representing the power output, i.e. 400bhp, i.e. almost 300kW.
Powered by a 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with dual-clutch gearbox and an all-wheel-drive set up.

So when are we getting this super hot hatch?
"We did research and customers don't want it. They want around 300 horsepower and a price tag below €50,000, (i.e. about R 915,000.00). To move up to 400 horsepower you lose 50 percent of the sales volume, and increase the cost of ownership." says Capito, VW's R division boss
“The performance king will remain a Golf R, and the Golf 8 R is going to be fantastic,” - Jürgen Stackmann ,Volkswagen board member. In short, forget about the R400, unless your pockets are deep for that type of a hot hatch.
